ANNIVERSARY TODAY:
February 15, 1950 - Broadway opening of Come Back, Little Sheba, a two-act play produced by The Theatre Guild, directed by Daniel Mann, and written by William Inge (his first Broadway show), at the Booth Theatre.

Last year's cable broadcast of Come Back, Little Sheba on TCM generated much interesting information from Shirley Booth's niece Leslie. What we realized is that we really do not know the location to all of Shirley's awards (three Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards, Sarah Siddons, Golden Globe, etc.)
They were either sold, given away, or stolen. The only award which we know the location of for sure is her Oscar, which resides at The Cape Playhouse. Leslie says that it's a replacement Oscar. She explained "The Oscar awarded to my Aunt Shirley in 1952 for Come Back, Little Sheba now resides at the Cape Playhouse is actually Oscar #2. The original (Oscar #1) was stolen from her apartment on W.57th and never returned. The Academy was notified and another (replacement) statue was sent. I do not remember when the original was stolen."

Hopefully, someone reading this blog will tell us if they know where some of Shirley Booth's many awards are located.

Playbill offers this concerning The Cape Playhouse: "Shirley Booth acted there so often, she kept her Oscar there."
I sent the following note to Playbill regarding how the Oscar arrived at the Cape Playhouse:
Dear Playbill:
Hi Andrew, Could you please correct the information on your website as regards Shirley Booth. She did not donate her Oscar to Cape Playhouse. Her sister Jean decided to do that after Shirley died. See my blog posts at http://shirleybooth.info concerning this misinformation that has circulated. Thank you!
