Shirley Booth's "Mahoney" Character Is A Variation Of MISS DUFFY!

ANNIVERSARY TODAY:

January 28, 1945 - Shirley Booth was heard on radio in The Eddie Bracken Show (NBC). She played the role of Betty Mahoney in this weekly series.

Sometimes this character was named "Dottie" and sometimes she was named "Betty." Shirley was well-known for this "Mahoney" character. It's really a variation of her Miss Duffy character from Duffy's Tavern. She played the character in a number of broadcasts for The Kate Smith Show, The Fred Allen Show and The Eddie Bracken Show, and The Vaughn Monroe Show.
With the exception of an appearance I found on a Kate Smith radio show, it appears that most of these shows are unfortunately lost.

Hazel says...

In episode #86 "Scheherezade and Her Frying Pan, Part Two," Hazel mistakes an FBI man posing as a gangster as a real gangster. She says: "You shouldn't really judge people till you get to know 'em better."
